Barbie Zelizer argues that journalism must be ultimately understood as a culture. A wonderful concept to any journalism student when pondered.
The source "Media and Journalism: New Approaches to Theory and Practice" provides some superbulous insight into the field of journalism e.g. what journalism is, the ideal journalist, the difference between hard and soft news, j-bloggers, what public relations is and oodles more.
"Convergent Journalism: An Introduction" provides fundamental information about how to actually write in a journalism arena and can be seen as a basic guide to the process of making a dang good feature article or news story.
Coming from social work to study journalism, political science and history I have realised a significant shift in how effing interesting the required readings for journalism are and how disinteresting social work was to me.
