Usually I just delete the spam emails my grandmother sends me but this one caught my eye as it's something I believe everyone has an opinion, or should have an opinion about. Well, it's at least interesting. More so to people over 40. ANYWAY.
The gist of the story is that my grandmother owns property right near the Bunya Mountains, beautiful, good-ol'-fashioned Australian country which I captured with my nifty Polaroid last time I was there (see below).
A new reform Labor wishes to impose is to place wind turbines upon this country in an area as aforementioned, particularly close to the Bunya Mountains. The concept of this concerns me on a number of levels, primarily the amount of rare and beautiful parrot species which occupy the area that are susceptible to being annihilated in the turbines and the impact that the noise of the turbines will have on local oldies.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm all for the progressive stance that renewable energy takes but is it really appropriate to place them in this particular location?
Locals in the Cooranga North area have displayed much resistance to the turbines with regular meetings, letters to the local representatives and petitions and the outcome is very much still pending.
To come to some kind of conclusion, I recommend an old-school pros and cons debate.
Coinciding with this weeks telling factual stories through images topic, here's an argument against wind turbines:
